What’s Your Motivation for Change?

Psychology tells us people try to change for one of two reasons: A current situation becomes too painful, or they have a deep desire to find something better.

Which one drives you?

If you’re in a house that’s on fire, you’ll probably run out of it to save yourself.

But when it comes to healthy living, the danger isn’t always that obvious.

We all know we need to eat right and exercise, but most of us don’t do it on our own. It’s so much easier staying in a situation that we already know. We mistake the “ease” with “comfort” and “safety,” so we stay where we are.

We wait until the doctor tells us we’re in danger.

Or someone makes a hurtful comment.

Or none of our clothes fit anymore.

In short, sometimes we need a painful catalyst to shock us into taking action.

If you’re that kind of person, please, don’t wait around for things to get worse. Look at the pain you’re in now and decide it’s enough. Decide that you have a hidden desire to live a healthier life.
