Lately you might have been hearing more and more about how important good posture is to staying fit. I’d like to give you my take on that, and hopefully inspire you to take an active role in achieving and maintaining “good posture.”
First of all, what is posture?
I like to think of posture as a relationship with gravity.
Every time we take a step, our bodies are interacting with gravity – this can be a pleasant interaction or an unpleasant one. A bad relationship with gravity will result in those common aches and pains we normally associate with aging and inactivity.
But it doesn’t stop there. “Bad” posture can predispose your body to injuries and interfere with everyday functions – especially fitness activities.
Good posture, on the other hand, can enhance overall activities, give us more energy and keep us out of pain.
So how do you get “good” posture? Well, if you think about it, our postural habits come from how we move, so moving differently is one of the best ways to correct or change those habits.
We simply wire new movement habits into our brain. Our priority is to develop an efficient relationship with gravity – in other words, when we take a step, the force is transmitted throughout our body and doesn’t get “stuck” anywhere.
At Renov8 Fitness, we offer a technique that will help you do just that – move your way into better posture. It’s called SymmetryTM Postural Alignment Therapy.
