Plant-based diets are skyrocketing in popularity, but are they really all that healthy?
Where does a plant-based eater get their protein from anyway, and is it enough to support their physique goals?
The truth is that we could all benefit from eating more plants. Plants are naturally low in saturated fat, calories, and cholesterol. Whole, natural fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, and obesity.
Cool, but what about protein?
Beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, quinoa, and soy products such as tofu all pack a protein punch. A well-formulated plant-based diet includes these protein sources to build and maintain muscle mass, strong bones, and skin elasticity.
