I’m going to be honest with you…

Good morning!

Hey there! This is coach Heather Binns.

Do you often find yourself struggling with intense feelings of disappointment and frustration?

I know I have been recently.

Trying to fight against these feelings (or ignoring them altogether) may do more harm than good.

One piece of wisdom I’d love to offer you from my life experience is to lean in, take a moment for yourself, honor the feelings that are coming up (recognize and accept), and move through in order to move forward.

I have learned that what gets ignored does NOT get resolved.

I am writing this post because, for me, it has been a tough few weeks recently. I have fallen short of being my best self. I tried masking my feelings with a fake smile in an attempt to override my negative thoughts. I slacked big time on my personal fitness and physical therapy exercises. I’ve been eating in a way that doesn’t make me feel good about myself.  In a way, I gave up.

What I find every time is…that never works! It always seems to take more energy from me than it gives back. In a way, it’s self-abandonment.

Does this resonate with you?

It’s OKAY to have a rough day, week, or month. It happens to everyone!

What makes the difference is how you respond to it 🙂

Yesterday, I purged more of my closet…I have way too many pairs of boots LOL!  Last night I relaxed in the jacuzzi with my husband and went to bed earlier than usual.  I said a prayer before falling asleep asking for God’s guidance in my life.  I then drifted off into sleep….

Today…I feel better. I woke up extra early, and naturally, without an alarm. I basked in the early morning sun with my dogs and felt the warmth on my skin. I expressed gratitude to be alive and gave thanks to the Lord for allowing me the opportunity to inspire others in their lives. And now I am writing this post to you, my friend…right before I start my physical therapy exercises 🙂

Did you learn something from this experience? If not, it could be an opportunity to look deeper.

Finding a self-care routine that works for you is integral to the inevitable failures in life. It should be a practice that restores you, puts life into perspective, and makes you feel like YOU again!

Some great examples of self-care:

  • Journaling and putting your thoughts to paper…even if you throw that paper away afterward

  • Exercising…even for only 5 minutes…to get your juices flowing and your body moving

  • Yoga or meditation to calm the mind, body, and soul

  • Taking a walk outdoors in nature to appreciate all that God has created

  • A hot bubble bath to relax the tension in your body and to ease your mind

  • Sitting down to read a good book, letting your mind wander into another realm

  • Practicing gratitude and appreciating the opportunity to experience life on this earth

Whatever works for you, do it, and do it often! Then, take a moment to express gratitude for all the wonderful things in your life. If you are reading this right now, I bet you have something you can be grateful for, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

Use these techniques to ground yourself and help release negative feelings.

Remember, emotions are like clouds. They change and shift, rarely staying in one place for too long.

You are the sky: Constant and unwavering. It takes guts to allow your emotions to surface…

I’m here for you in any way that I can be…just reach out to me.

XOXO

Coach Heather
